Energy Storage for Green Economy

Why green economy? A question that always exist on the floor. It is believe current model economy could not solve the problem, specifically related to the environmental disaster. Always remember, we only have one planet. There is no planet B. Hence, a new perspective is needed such as green economy model, for instance. How we build the economy based on green technology with energy storage as one alternative solution. Because if we look forward to the NDC (National Determination Contribution), Indonesia committed to reach 29% and conditional reduction target up to 41% by 2050. On the other side, energy transition target is increasing by the time, 23% in 2025 and 31% by 2050. So that, renewable energy system should be accelerated with energy storage as anti-intermittency.

Those arguments belong to Prof. Dr. Eng. Eniya Listiani Dewi, M.Eng, in her plenary session of International Conference on Battery for Renewable Energy and Electric Vehicles (ICB-REV) 2021. She is Deputy for Information, Energy, and Materials Technology of Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT). Professor Eniya also explained the potency of recycling lithium ion battery for supporting green economy. At glance, there are two important process; pre-treatment and hydrometallurgy. Pre-treatment step starts with dismantling battery to froth flotation. And hydrometallurgy process covers  discharging & dismantling process of battery, leaching process of cathode and anode powders, extraction, striping, purification, and product characterization.
