Press Conference on Climate Challenge Workshop

On Friday (07/05/2021) the National Battery Research Institute with British Council held a Press Conference for the upcoming event Climate Challenge Workshop. This workshop was supported by a Researcher Links Climate Challenge Workshop Grant and funded by the British Council to implement activities in the run up to COP26. The Speakers of this press conference are the British Council Country Director Hugh Moffatt, the Workshop Chair Prof. Dr. Alan J. Drew, and the Founder of National Battery Research Institute Prof. Dr. Evvy Kartini. On this occasion attended by the mentors for the Climate challenge workshop namely Prof. Dr. Sir. Colin Humphreys, Prof. Dr. Elizabeth Tanner, Prof. Dr. Edvin Aldrian, and Prof. Dr. Anne Zulfia. 

The Climate Challenge Workshop offers a platform to stimulate and discuss innovative research ideas and encourage sustainable collaboration across disciplines. This grant is designed to provide financial support for Early Career Researchers from the UK and Indonesia to participate in virtual interdisciplinary research workshops. This workshop will explain the causes and roles of Indonesia towards climate change, locally and globally, in various economic sectors (such as transportation, energy, industry, tourism, households) as well as the social and economic impacts that climate change will cause in Indonesia.

On this regards, Mr. Hugh Moffatt reiterates The British Council is committed to supporting innovative collaborations that slow the pace of climate change. We understand that international collaboration is essential to find solutions to the climate crisis. As the UK prepares to host COP 26 in Glasgow in November, we are delighted to support a Climate Change Researcher Links Workshop grant. The grant will provide resources and facilitate links between early-career researchers from the UK and in Indonesia to find innovative solutions to address climate-related challenges, develop their skills and network. 

On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Alan Drew and Prof. Dr. Evvy Kartini conveys how the impact of climate change is already in sight and yet concerning. The Climate Challenge Workshop is a joint effort to achieve the targets in the Paris Agreement and SDGs as Indonesia's commitment to stay below 2 degrees, one of which is implemented in Presidential Decree No. 55 of 2019 concerning Battery Electric Vehicles, also promotes Battery Electric Vehicles in the Indonesian automotive industry. In conclusion, as renewable energy, electric vehicles require energy storage, namely batteries as energy storage that can reduce CO2. 

This press conference marked the official opening of the Climate Challenge Workshop, both Hugh Moffatt, British Council Country Director, Prof. Dr. Alan Drew, Prof. Dr. Evvy Kartini, and the mentors welcomed the participants who would join the Climate Challenge Workshop.
